Education
After Governor Faubus shut down schools in Little Rock to stop integration, Melba moved to Santa Rosa, California to continue her education with help from the NAACP and her foster parents Dr. George and Carol McCabe. She graduated from Montgomery High School and later attended San Francisco State University and earned a bachelors degree. She also earned a masters degree for journalism from Columbia University and started to write her own novels.
